Best Interview Success Tip - You Can Learn How to Market #1

First of all there are a few trade secrets that the top performers consistently use to come out as winners in the race to get hired. Fortunately, I have learned a career portfolio is one of those trade secrets.  Your career portfolio is going to help you tremendously in interview preparation and performance, with cover letters and the writing of your all important resume.  Of course everybody knows, your resume is the sink or swim part of your
job hunt. In addition, personal career portfolios are even becoming popular way to market your talents on the internet.

In case you are not aware a career portfolio is simply a collection of evidence for all your career accomplishments that can include: education, professional development, certificates, awards, performance reviews, photos of trophies & plaques, corporate recognition, sales reports, proof of earnings, important projects, letters of recommendation and photos.  Creative professionals have been using them forever and with great success. But now they have really caught on because seeing is believing.

There is no better way to convince someone than by presenting evidence that allows them to convince themselves.   A career portfolio will be a gold mine for you, because it allows you to get away from the responsibility trap on resumes and interviews. You can focus on how you will benefit your new employers as a result of reviewing your own portfolio. This means in your interviews you will be far more unique and compelling. Why? Features do not ignite interest nearly as much as benefits do.

Also, employers often test your composure with 2 or 3 managers asking you questions during one meeting. If you promptly remember your top five accomplishments from 2004, I would be very surprised. One or two of those may have been ideally suited to impress your potential new employer. It is my duty to inform you; those missed opportunities do hurt for two reasons.  One because only the top candidates will earn employment today and two because taking time to think on routine questions allows for doubt.

The top ten ways a career portfolio will help you get job offers:

1. Builds enough confidence and self esteem so your interviewer believes you will succeed again.

2. Dramatically improves your performance in interviews for employment. (No more stumbling)

3. Trains you to keep a permanent career long focus on recording your all important accomplishments.

4. More employers interested in hiring you, means you can pick the highest paying offer.

5. Improves your body language, poise and facial expressions in interviews due to unshakable confidence.

6. You get more interviews because your resume is full of compelling examples of your performance.

7. Writing a great resume and cover letter is now possible, because now you can reference your portfolio.

8. If you need to change your career, you can reference more appropriate proof of previous performance.

9. You have the evidence to target multiple jobs with a few different targeted resumes and cover letters.

10.  You can instantly create your own evidence file, to show your career highlights during interviews.

As a bonus, the career portfolio is especially helpful for seasoned citizens looking for employment. Unfortunately, we all know age discrimination does exist. Thankfully, a career portfolio is a major help in this area too.
